Indian Naval Hydrographic Department
The Indian Naval Hydrographic Department (INHD) functions under the Chief Hydrographer to the Government of India. The Department, being the nodal agency for Hydrographic surveys and Nautical charting in India, has a very well established organizational setup. INHD has seven indigenously built modern survey ships including one Catamaran Hull Survey Vessel (CHSV) fitted with state-of-the-art surveying equipment and a well established ‘National Institute of Hydrography’ which is the Centre for imparting training in Hydrography accredited by International Hydrographic Organisation for National and International trainees.
Services
Training in Hydrography
The Indian Naval Hydrographic Department conducts courses for Hydrographic officers, sailors, technicians and civilians, both from India and abroad. The Long and Basic Hydrographic courses conducted by the National Institute of Hydrography, Goa have been recognised with Cat ‘A’ and ‘B’ certification in accordance with S-5A, First Edition, and version 1.0.2 – Jun 18 of the FIH/IHO/ICA International Board on standards of Competence for Hydrographers and Nautical Cartographers, in 2020.
